i love to play with them.
i love to shoot them. (with a camera)
Last weekend, we took an Easter trip to the zoo. The day before we left, Gracie and i decided to come up with a Zoo Scavenger Hunt for her little cousins. Nothing like a last minute frenzy to whip up a list of fun animals to find. i filled little easter basket with cookies, bubbles, bunny ears and a fun printable.
when we got back home, i decided to make the printable into a coloring page also. how fun for little ones to search for animals and then come home and color their printable.
going to the zoo is a little bitter sweet for me. i love being able to see animals up close but i hate knowing they aren’t in their natural habitat. the Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is pretty incredible at recreating an animal’s natural environment. it is one of the best zoos i’ve ever been to. here are some fun shots i’ve captured at Henry Doorly. i learned that jelly fish are amazing to photograph. they are absolutely stunning.
i almost deleted this shot of mr. orangoutang because at first, i was like “this little kid totally ruined my shot.”
and then i realized it had that cool 70’s double exposure portrait vibe. dynomite.
some of my best memories on vacation have been filled with animals.
swimming with dolphins in the Caribbean on our Disney Cruise (read about that here).
and here in Mexico. i flipping love dolphins. they are amazing. i wanted to take one home with me but my husband wouldn’t let me.
My husband loves bears. last spring, we were selected to play with bear cubs at Bear Country USA. they were jerks. i don’t want one. super cute. but super naughty. they are definitely wild animals. still an incredible experience.
if you ever go to Wisconsin Dells, check out the Wisconsin Deer Park. we took a mini family vacation a few years ago to the Dells. we googled top things to do while there and the Deer Park was #1. we actually dismissed it at first. we questioned how a deer park would be awesome. it was. trust me. it is so cool to just go and walk among the deer. it’s a little intimidating at first but then you feel like a disney princess. i wanted to take one home with me but my husband wouldn’t let me.
our most recent animal encounter was hands down my favorite. i love elephants. while we were in florida, my husband surprised us with a visit to Two Tails Ranch. He woke us up one morning and told us he was taking us somewhere for Valentines day. he told us an hour out that it would involve elephants. i cried like a baby. an absolute dream come true. during the extreme encounter, we fed, rode, bathed and played with them. it was a moment that will be hard to beat. i would work there in a heartbeat if i lived closer. i can’t imagine hanging out with elephants every day of my life. utopia. i wanted to take one home with me and i think if we could have, my husband would have let me.
my husband knows that if i die before him, i’ll be waiting for him amongst the animals in heaven. probably riding an elephant. or a unicorn. because quite honestly, unicorns may be a little cooler than elephants. maybe. and i don’t care what he says at that point. i’m keeping them both.
p.s. i’m working on a blog for my birthday on Sunday. it includes a WHOLE ENTIRE WEEK of giveaways. you won’t want to miss it. join our Facebook Page Here to stay in the rat race.
