Laundry today or Naked Tomorrow….that’s the quesiton of the day!
i choose laundry! except, i have one problem….excuse me, one HUGE MAJOR problem!
NO MORE TIDE!
SO, I DID WHAT ANY NORMAL HOUSEWIFE WOULD DO…I SEARCHED THE NET FOR HOMEADE LAUNDRY DETERGENT RECIPES. I started to get discouraged after the first couple recipes i found called for Borax…what the hell is Borax? (the only thing i can relate it to is the Sacha Baron Cohen movie..and it did not involve great memories)
after a few minutes i came upon this recipe http://tipnut.com/10-homemade-laundry-soap-detergent-recipes/ so instead of running to Hy-vee what any other normal person would do, i thought i’d give it a gander.
RECIPE:
1 gallons Water (hot) (16 cups or 2 quarts…yep i had to find the conversion)
1 bar Soap (grated)
1 cups Baking soda
Melt grated soap in a saucepan with enough hot water to cover. Cook on medium-low heat, stirring frequently until soap is melted.
In a large pail, pour 1 gallons hot water. Add melted soap, stir well.
Then add the baking soda, stir well again.
Use 1/2 cup per full load, 1 cup per very soiled load.
So the Fun Begins!
i started out with a bar of Honey Almond Soap from Irish Twin Soaps and judging on the smell alone, this venture was already a success! Love her stuff…natural, good-for-you products ….that are good-for-the earth too!
place soap in saucepan and pour enough hot water in just to cover the soap…melt over low heat, stirring occasionally
when soap melts, remove from heat and pour into 1 gallon of HOT water
next, stir in 1 cup of baking soda
Stir well, and VOILA….done….!
FEAR NOT, MY FAMILY WILL HAVE CLEAN UNDERWEAR!

~another successful recipe in the life of a real housewife of South Dakota~

so curious to know the result? Hey, and since your going all natural, try 1/4 cup white vinegar in your rinse cycle. Your clothes will be soft & fluffy.
And…you can buy it at HyVee. Check out my blog to see all of the toxins & nasties in most commercial laundry detergents. Thanks for the post!
*You do know that Irish Twins Soap Co. makes laundry concentrate right? It is SOOOOO much better than Tide/Downy….just as cost effective and SO much better for your skin, your washer, and our groundwater.
