As with many children, you get a tiny glimpse into their future as they begin to develop little intricacies as they grow. Allow me to share 2 that happened within 2 hours of each other last night.
We were at Scheels last night, searching madly for snow pants to replace the ripped pair she has now. After scouring the city of Sioux Falls, we came up empty handed~ yep, we live in snowy South Dakota and there are no snow pants to be found~ i’ll stop the sarcasm there….could seriously be another blog headliner….NO SNOWPANTS OFFERED IN THE MIDWEST AFTER AUGUST…INSTEAD…YOU CAN BUY SWIMSUITS IN FEBRUARY!” makes perfect sense to me! Anyway, back to the story, as we were walking past the tennis shoes isle, Gracie tells us “*anonymous name* told me i can’t buy shoes with Velcro anymore, i need to buy shoes that tie, because she said she’s the boss of me!” Don’t get me wrong, I love children, could spend hours with a room full of them, but this particular girl rubs me the wrong way…ALREADY…at 6!!!! She has this certain “what the hell are you doing here” look that sends me into a downward spiral! So, when she starts messing with my daughter, let the games begin! Jerime and I explain to her…”Honey, nobody is the boss of you…you are you’re own person…” and I throw in “Be a strong girl and always stand up for what you believe in” -starting to sound like a broken record with that one…but I truly believe that! Jerime ends it with “if she tells you that again, tell her, SHE needs Velcro shoes…and YOU’RE the boss of HER!” Gracie calmly took a deep inhale and said “Mom, Dad, two wrongs don’t make a right!” Who is this girl? Life lessons from a 6 year old!
End of Part One:
Enter Part Two:
Last night after Gracie was sleeping, Jerime checked his messages on his phone. He came into the bedroom, sat down on the bed, opened his phone and said “Honey, you gotta hear this!” On the msgs, was a father of one of Gracie’s classmates…he nicely introduced himself and politely told us his son came home from school and told him about a “BOLT” party at our house on Saturday afternoon. He wondered what time he had to bring his child over to our house. SUPRISE….we had no idea! For the last few weeks, Gracie has been coming home from school and telling us a group of 8 kids role play the movie Bolt at recess….cute I thought……Not so cute when she plans a party without us knowing! A party planner at 6….yes, there was a little glimpse into our future with a child like Gracie Noodle. Little did we know God gave us a “Party Planning Philosopher”
Oh, what a girl!! You are in for a wonderful ride with this one … cherish all the ups and downs and spins and turns ’cause she is in it for nothing less than the A-Ticket Rides!!!
Gracie Noodle…Just wait until you both turn 50 and see what kind of surprise party that will be….Love, Nana
